TEEN VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY AT
LUCILE PACKARD CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
You can participate, if you are:
10-19 years old
Overweight
Interested in a 12 week ¬home exercise & nutrition program
Have computer & internet access
Can come to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford for a 3-hour test at the start & end of the study (so only twice!)
Are able to come to testing after fasting overnight
Do not smoke
Do not take any medications
Here is information about the study tests:
EndoPAT: 2 painless probes are placed on your index fingers. These probes record changes in blood flow. During this recording, a blood pressure cuff will be inflated on one upper arm for five minutes. Your arm might fall asleep while the cuff is inflated.
Carotid Ultrasound: A test which uses sound waves to examine the blood vessels in your neck - it’s also painless
Tonometry- A tiny pen like-probe will record the pulse in your arm, neck, and leg by a light touch on the skin (also painless).
Exercise testing to assess your exercise capacity (how much you can exert yourself).
Blood-work will be obtained on both visits.
Each testing day will be approximately 3 hours.
