Researchers at the Department of Psychiatry are looking for adolescents who are 14 to 18 years old and their parents to participate in a study on sleep and mood. Two groups are being recruited: Adolescents diagnosed with bipolar I disorder and adolescents who have no psychiatric disorder.

Sleep is commonly disrupted in people with bipolar disorder. In adults, these disruptions have been shown to predict the course of the disorder. However, we know very little about the ways in which sleep is disrupted in youth with bipolar disorder. Our study aims to characterize sleep and daily mood in youth with bipolar disorder. The study involves: (1) A visit by you and your adolescent to our lab to complete interviews and questionnaires; (2) Measuring your adolescent’s sleep in your home for two consecutive nights; (3) Your adolescent completing a daily diary about his/her sleep, activities, and mood for three weeks. The diary can be completed online using his/her cell phone; and (4) Your adolescent wearing a special wristwatch that measures physical motion for three weeks.

We offer a financial compensation up to $215 for your time and effort.
