I'm a responsible, clean, mature, quiet, financially stable, single, nonsmoking male who recently took a new position at Stanford and am currently in temporary housing, renting a room in a family home. Looking to transition to independent living on or around Feb. 28/March 1 and would prefer avoiding ubiquitous apartment life. Most interested in a cottage, garage apt. or detached in-law unit with private entrance and its own kitchen/bath and possibly a garden area. Locations under consideration: Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, Menlo Park, Atherton, and possibly Redwood City. If I came across an ideal living situation in an area located beyond these areas, I might consider it depending upon amenities.

Of note, I have two eight-year old mellow dogs (rescues) who primarily sleep throughout the day after their long morning walk until I get home from work. We're looking for a relatively tranquil setting that will afford plenty of outdoor time near trails, parks or other green spaces. I happen to be quite handy and good at gardening/landscaping if those skills can offset a bit of the rent fee. Looking to pay no more than $2200 with a bit of flexibility for utilities.
