Class Description: Chemical thermodynamics and kinetic molecular models; fundamental principles, Gibbsian equations, systematic deduction of equations, equilibrium conditions, gases, phase changes, solutions and chemical equilibrium. Introduction to chemical kinetics: roles of thermal motion and energy barriers, relationship between rate and reaction mechanism, and modeling of specific reactions. The MATLAB programming language will be used for modeling, analysis and visualization throughout.
