Full-Time Temporary Position

Stanford University is actively recruiting to fill an Event Manager position in the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. This will be a full-time temporary position that is expected to last approximately four months starting in January 2016.

“Stanford, I Screwed Up” is an annual event commemorating and celebrating the ‘epic failures’ in our lives. Students from across Stanford’s campus come together and share experiences through storytelling, comedy, poetry, song, video, and other creative means.

The Event Manager reports to the Director of Learning Strategy Programs and is part of a team that supports this event. The Events Manager is responsible for overseeing all planning leading up to and including the performance, and for ensuring smooth logistical execution to enable conditions for a flawless production. The Events Manager provides primary leadership and ownership of all logistics for the event, which takes place on Thursday, March 31st, 2016. A video of last year’s SISU can be viewed here.

Job Responsibilities:

Organize all logistics including working with technical crew and performers to ascertain and secure technical needs, developing cues and media files, supervising day-of volunteer staff, and developing promotional plan
Curate all event media assets, including projection images, music, and videos
Create cue sheets, staging diagrams, and other necessary organizational documentation for video, tech, lighting, sound, volunteer, and participant groups
Develop volunteer team strategy
Coordinate with campus security to ensure appropriate safety measures are incorporated into event
Work with campus administrative partners in VPTL and other units to ensure communications and outcome study are implemented
Visit performance groups to assess progress, provide feedback, and gather technical needs; conveying tech needs to event service teams (video, staging, lighting, and audio)
Direct rehearsal and execution of Grand Finale
Manage day-of logistics
Recruit performance including vetting, interviewing, and preparing performers
Develop day-of program
Coordinate and direct live-capture video
Liaise with food vendors

Qualifitications:
Associate degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience
Experience producing complex live performance events, preferably in outdoor venues.
Experience directing and/or producing stage/theater productions
Experience supervising volunteer and/or professional staff
Experience working with contract vendors providing technical and other support
