The Carnegie Institution for Science located at 260 Panama Street on the Stanford campus has an immediate opening for a part time Greenhouse/Horticulture Associate. Carnegie is located on the Stanford campus and comprises two departments, the Department of Plant Biology and the Department of Global Ecology.

This position is a non-exempt, hourly position for 15 hours per week, which includes regular weekend and holiday hours. These hours can be spread out over three to five days per week.

Job Summary: Applicant will provide hands-on support in all operation functions of the growth facility (80%) and grounds (20%). Work includes weekends, holidays & vacations plus pesticide application every two or three months.

Qualifications:
• Minimum one year experience in working with plants
• Proof of reliable work attendance
• Ability to work outdoors year-round, in greenhouses and wet environments.
• Works in harmony with co-workers and follows instructions
• Capable of working autonomously
• Ability to lift 60 lbs, and sometimes work from on a max. 4’ tall step ladder.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, dig, and kneel.

Requirements:
• Receive and maintain a QAC (Qualified Applicators Certificate) through CDPR (California Department of Pesticide Regulation) within the two months of employment in order to apply pesticides; expenses for certification to be paid by employer
• Balances productivity with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to operate machinery/equipment necessary for the position.
