I recently finished my PhD on the East Coast, and I'm moving to the Bay to begin a postdoc in the humanities. I'm 30, male, single, and straight (but an LGBT ally). My hobbies include travel (Berlin is my favorite haunt these days), live music (jazz, funk, EDM), and conscientious cooking/eating (my cure for insomnia is watching episodes of America's Test Kitchen). I'm excited to get into some more outdoor activities in the Bay -- I didn't have too many opportunities for that while in grad school. I also enjoy a solid night out now and again (but I never take the party home with me). I come with no pets, no car, and no smoking habits -- but you're welcome to possess all of these things.

I prefer to live around people who are independent and self-contained but also down to open a bottle of wine or share an adventure on the weekend. We don't need to be biffles (I value my privacy and respect yours), but I'd like it if we pushed back a little against the isolating and alienating tendencies of contemporary urban life. Also, as time passes, the more I've come to appreciate the value of tasteful interior design. It would be really great if we could work together to organize the common areas around a consistent aesthetic, rather than succumbing to the typical accumulation of mismatched furniture, random wall art, and duplicate cookware. Keeping up a pleasant aesthetic environment also requires some regular cleaning and maintenance, and establishing a fair division of household duties is something I take very seriously. I've lived in shared flats for the past 12 years, and at this point I've developed some strategies both for preventing conflict from arising and for dealing with issues directly when they do come up.

I'm concentrating my search around Portrero, Dogpatch, Mission Bay, and SoMa, for the sake of commuting to Stanford by Caltrain. I'm looking for a move-in date between now and Sep. 1. I'd like to stay as far south of $2000 as I can. Very happy to exchange social media links if I seem like an attractive potential roommate!
