We are seeking for healthy volunteers between the ages of 7 and 17 to participate in a research study of imaging the human brain by using magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) at Lucas Center for Imaging at Stanford University. MRE uses MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machines, which uses a strong magnet to make images of your brain. The purpose of the study is to determine the mechanical properties of the developing human brain. During the scan, your child will be asked to lie on a long narrow couch for 15 minutes while the machine gathers data. During this time, your child will hear repetitive tapping noises that arise from the Magnetic Resonance Scanner. In addition, a small vibrating pillow will be placed under your head for a portion of the exam. Your child will sense very mild vibration under his/her head, the same feeling you would have if you put your head onto a small speaker.

The participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Including preparation, the experiment will take about an hour and it is one-time only.

Parent/guardian permission is required for the child to participate.

If you have any questions about this study, please contact the Protocol Director, Dr. Max Wintermark at mwinterm@stanford.edu, (650) 498-1481 and study admin Dr. Mehmet Kurt at mkurt@stanford.edu, (217) 819-6200.
