Looking for a tutor? I'm a PhD Candidate in Physics at Stanford University, and I specialize in tutoring math, physics, and chemistry at the high school and undergraduate levels. I have over seven years of teaching and tutoring experience in a wide range of settings: from seven undergraduate- and graduate-level university courses, to private tutoring sessions, and science outreach programs for over a hundred students. And, for the last two years, I was director of the Science Teaching through Art program, ScienceTeachingThroughArt.com.
My teaching philosophy is to enable students to learn by doing, rather than simply teaching information. As a tutor, I guide students through homework problems as I would approach it in my own research, and over time my students learn to approach problems like a scientist. This has benefited the students I teach academically and has made them more confident approaching problems from multiple perspectives.
I am available to tutor in San Francisco and anywhere in the Peninsula: Palo Alto, Mountain View, San Jose, etc. My rate is $50 per hour (private tutoring only, no group tutoring- sorry!). If I have not tutored your particular course before, I'll need to review the syllabus before giving you my hourly rate. (The adjusted rate accounts for additional preparation time.)
If you are interested in having me as your tutor, contact me here or visit me at matt-ware.com. Please include a link to or copy of the syllabus in your first email!
