Professors Allison Okamura (engineering) & Jo Boaler (education) are looking for a summer Research Assistant to work on a haptics project to help young children learn math in novel ways.
From Professors Boaler and Okamura:
"We are working to create a novel haptic device and software interface that will enable us to study whether finger training combined with mathematical training can improve mathematical understanding in children aged four to five.
Job Description:
We are looking for someone with software development experience to help us develop the UI that the children will play with and that will interact with the novel hardware. The developer will work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of engineers and math education experts to create this UI.
Required skills:
Experience with Java or other object oriented programming language (Optional but preferred: experience in UI and/or game development, experience with Java-based languages such as Processing.
Optional: Experience interfacing software with hardware platforms such as Arduino)
The hours are flexible and could be just a few weeks in late June & July.
Please email joboaler@stanford.edu if you have further questions and are interested in working with us."
Fantastic opportunity with two great professors working at the intersection of education and engineering-- would highly recommend!
