The Gene Vector and Virus Core (GVVC) is currently looking for an experienced and highly motivated Life Science Research Professional to perform all phases of lab work involved in the production of recombinant viral vectors. Responsibilities will include molecular design, cloning and vector construction, virus production and purification in insect and/or mammalian cells, as well as characterization and titration by qPCR, gel or infection.
The job will require someone who is meticulous, highly organized, can multitask, works efficiently and independently, can prioritize projects and can effectively interact with a large number of diverse users from different disciplines/areas.
In addition, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining the lab and complying with
government and University health and safety policies and regulations, especially with respect to
biohazardous materials.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Extensive molecular biology (plasmid construction) and tissue culture experience is a must.
• Initiate and direct the molecular design, cloning, and troubleshoot the creation of new viral vectors.
• Proficient with MS Office and other commonly used software is required.
• Experience with transient transfection of 293 cells and insect cells, production of recombinant viruses, and knowledge of sequence analysis software is preferred.
• Knowledge in the areas of neurobiology, optogenetics, fluorescent reporters, or RNAi is a bonus.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• A minimum of BS/BA in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Virology or closely related field. Masters degree is preferred.
• 3 to 4 years of experience in molecular/cell biology and/or recombinant viral research experience
• Demonstrated expertise in state of the art technologies employed for recombinant DNA manipulation including but not limited to cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, codon optimization, and/or gene synthesis
• Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and exceptional organizing skills
• Must be proactive, co-operative, and willing to work in a small team environment
