Overview:

Develops fabrication processes such as polishing, machining, and single-point diamond turning for successful implementation of new optical components. Creates process documentation, and supports the ongoing production of optical components using process engineering skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as a technical subject matter expert for optical component fabrication processes.
• Develops fabrication processes to enable the manufacture of new products.
• Implements new fabrication process technologies into production.
• Creates and improves documentation for the manufacture of optical components.
• Trains technicians on the execution of fabrication processes.
• Monitors and drives improvement of production fabrication processes and equipment using SPC.
• Supports troubleshooting of existing fabrication processes.
• Supports procurement and quality with supplier evaluation and selection.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Physics, Optics, etc.).
• 10+ years of optical component fabrication experience desirable.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD software desirable.
• Proficiency with SPC desirable.
• Experience with optical alignment and bonding desirable.
• Experience with structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, etc) desirable.
