A well-told story is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. It reminds us what it means to be human and helps us understand the world. It makes us feel more alive.

At Epic, our mission is to find and tell extraordinary true stories. As a magazine and a production company, we do this by publishing articles, making films and TV shows, and producing documentaries. We are the team behind the Academy Award-winning film Argo.

Epic continues to grow, and as such we are looking to add an additional Story Hunter to the team. As an Epic Story Hunter you will be part of a select group of reporters who travel the world in search of amazing stories. The secret: it involves talking to a lot of people.

Not surprisingly, the most important qualification is….. to like people and not be afraid to talk to strangers.

Other important things you should be able to do:

• Ask really good/smart questions.
• Be able to spot a great story.
• Have a clear, crisp, compelling writing style.
• Be deeply curious about people and the world.
• Like solo travel to places off the beaten path.
• Work well under pressure and with deadlines.
• Be up to speed on domestic and global political and cultural events.

We are not looking for news stories. We are looking for stories you can tell around a campfire. Stories about people that haven't already been told. Stories about people who have had an experience that is captivating, dramatic, and surprising in some way.

We want to say something original every time and we believe that the best way to do that is to get out into the world and interview people.

Story Hunters can have backgrounds in journalism, documentary filmmaking, narrative filmmaking, ethnography, fiction writing, or sumo wrestling. They should bring the same level of intelligence and empathy to a conversation with a Nobel Laureate as they do to an afternoon with a drug dealer in Paramaribo.

Epic-which has offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco-was founded by Joshuah Bearman and Joshua Davis, two award-winning magazine writers and film producers who have had nearly 30 stories optioned for film and television projects. This position will be based in Epic's San Francisco office.
