Hi,
Do you have 45 minutes a week to help the children of Maui stay up in their school work?
The elementary and middle school pop up building opened October 18th, but the school is pretty near the site of the fires. 50% of the Native Hawaiians are not sending their children back, due to fears of the soil, air, and water, being contaminated.
They plan to homeschool their children, which will be very difficult, because they don't even have permanent housing, food, money, Etc.
I've been fundraising for Maui for the last 2 months, and when I saw that these mothers were going to try to homeschool the children, I realized how hard it was going to be for them. On just one website, I offered to tutor a couple of kids in writing.
The response was very overwhelming, and the mothers were so incredibly grateful. The age range is up to about age 14, and this would be fairly loose, most of them are not following any kind of special curriculum, they just don't want their children to fall behind in learning to write.
If you like to work with kids, and you can write well at an 8th grade level!, please consider donating 45 minutes a week to these Hawaiian children who have lost so much!
Please let me know as soon as possible, as I got an overwhelming response to my offer and I'm now trying to find tutors to match all the kids.
Thank you!
