Hello!

We are looking for someone who can watch our kid once or twice a week, chat about science, and maybe do some fun art projects/experiments with him. No tutoring or structured teaching is needed.

For context: our kid is 7 and has a very hard time making friends and connecting with peers over the things he loves. He is very chatty and affectionate toward the people he likes. He is also autistic, has ADHD and is very bright. Our regular nanny is not able to connect with him at the level he needs and on weekdays our work hours don't allow us to give him the stimulating time he needs, so he is often bored. We think having him spend a couple of hours a week with a science-loving college student might be just what he needs.

Job details
Compensation: $20-30 depending on experience and fit

Location:
- Stanford faculty housing, 3 blocks from campus.

Time:
1x or 2x weekday (not on Tuesday): any 2hs between 1pm and 5:30pm

Requirements:
- Able to form a connection with him
- A love of science (especially physics) and enthusiasm in talking about it
- Some experience playing/working with kids (camp, babysitting, younger siblings/cousins, no need for paid experience)

Responsibilities:
- Spend time chatting about and expanding upon preferred interests
- Coming up with and working on fun projects together
- Also desirable: drawing/painting together, coming up with fun stories, and exploring nature

This would be a great fit for anyone who would like to work with kids in the future (education, psych, pre-med), as it is an opportunity to build experience with kids with a complex mix of incredible strengths and intense challenges. Also a good fit for a science major who is good with kids, or someone with a similar life experience who can connect on a personal level.

We're an easy-going family and, other than connecting with our kid, the job requirements are pretty low. Also, this is an experiment so, if you are interested, we welcome ideas for how to approach this!
