Traineeship in Healthcare Equity Research - Sectoral

THE POSITION

We are seeking a trainee to join our public equity team, supporting all equity research activities in healthcare. Your primary function will be to help identify and evaluate potential healthcare investments for our public equity funds. With support from a seasoned analyst, you will participate in all aspects of the due diligence process: evaluating the probability of success for drug candidates and medical devices, gathering input information such as market size and competitive landscape, developing detailed financial forecasts and valuation models to arrive at an investment recommendation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent life-science graduate with a passion for investing to gain hands-on research and investment management experience, and to meaningfully contribute to a collaborative, high-achieving team. The traineeship is a temporary, 12-month position, located in Montreal, Canada. The position is office based. Subsequent to traineeship completion, successful candidates who exhibit strong motivation and aptitude for investing could be considered for a full-time investment analyst position.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work within the public equity team to research and evaluate investment candidates for public equity healthcare and biotechnology portfolios
• Engage with corporate management teams, medical and scientific experts, and other industry sources to help gain and maintain insights on medical, healthcare industry, and company-specific developments
• Conduct detailed financial and competitive landscape analysis of selected companies
• Provide commentary on news and events as they relate to companies under coverage
• Present and debate investment recommendations and conclusions to the investment
committee.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

• Life sciences training from an elite North American university
• Demonstrated interest in the stock market and investing
• Superior verbal/written communication and presentation skills
• Very strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• A high-level intellectual curiosity when researching new topics, ability to multi-task, and willingness to work in situations that involve tight deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to team goals and collaboration
• Currently located or interested in relocating to Montreal, with the expectation of working
in person

REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of undergraduate/graduate degree in a life science field (eg. medicine, biochemistry, biology, molecular genetics, pharmacology or similar) or medical engineering
• Financial analysis background is not required, but strong analytical skills and facility with
numbers are a must
• Fluency in oral and written English
