Hi! We’re Dropship Dharma, a 10-year-old co-op in downtown Palo Alto, and we’re looking for someone new to move in! We strive to be a cooperative community that provides more than mere residential necessity, where the well-being of each individual and the group are prioritized. We do this by fostering a functional and aesthetic space for open dialogue, safe repose, good food, and abundant shenanigans, since 2012. There are 9 people, and most of us here are graduate students, postdocs, or tech working millennials our mid 20s and 30s, with a mix of guys and gals. We keep costs low by splitting professional cleaning service, internet, electricity, and groceries ($250-350/month). Food is central to our community and we share four vegetarian / vegan-friendly dinners per week.
The house was recently renovated with 2 full kitchens, 2 dishwashers, 2 washer/dryers, and a large back deck with a grill. The main floor and basement both have furnished common spaces; we also use the garage as a hangout spot for playing music (and storage, of course). The large back yard has a veggie & native plant garden, a hot tub, and 10 different fruit trees. The location of the house is very walkable. We’re located just a few blocks from the shops and restaurants on University Ave, the Palo Alto Caltrain station, and Johnson Park. Stanford’s campus is a ~20-minute walk, ~10-minute bike ride, and 10-minute drive.
We are looking for someone who vibes well, is a good communicator, and has co-op enthusiasm! LGBTQ+, BIPOC all welcome. The room is open beginning October 5th, and we have a strong preference for people willing to stay for at least 1 year.
You'll want to live here if you: enjoy cooking; enjoy eating; need people to play board games with; want people to go on weekend adventures with; or just want more community in your life.
About the room: This attic room is at the very top of the house, and is medium sized. The ceiling is high in most places, but slopes towards one side of the room and reduces head space in that area. This room lacks windows, but is well temperature controlled by the house's AC system. It also lacks a door, as seen in the photos. The room is at the top of a series of steps which cuts off the view from the adjacent hallway, and previous residents have put up hanging partitions to establish extra privacy. We're more than willing to help set something like that up when you move in if desired! This room can come furnished or unfurnished, depending on your preference.
