NYC: Fintech + Wealth Management: We are looking for an investor to expand our portfolio in fintech and wealth management. Current investments include Altruist, Vanilla, Moment, Personal Capital, Numerated and SmartBiz.
About Venrock:
Originally established as the venture arm of the Rockefeller family in 1969, Venrock is an early-stage venture capital firm. With over $6 billion under management, the portfolio consists of 100+ active portfolio companies, including Altruist, Vanilla, 6sense, Devoted Health, Lyra, Aledade and Astronomer. Alumni investments include Apple, Intel, Gilead, Idec, Checkpoint, Illumina, Cloudflare, DoubleClick, Nest and 10x Genomics.
We are looking for determined and creative individuals who have worked in technology and want to partner with entrepreneurs to build disruptive, impactful companies. This is a full-stack investing role, not just sourcing or diligence support.
In joining our investment team you will have the opportunity to build and grow a practice with plenty of mentorship. Specifically, you will identify, qualify, and help lead new investments, represent Venrock, and work closely with the portfolio and across the firm. We are focused on early stage investing only, and tend to pursue non-consensus opportunities (rather than chase the same deals everyone else does) and our culture embraces first principles, initiative, and creative thinking.
Responsibilities:
Deal Sourcing & Evaluation:
• Proactively identify and source promising investment opportunities in your target area.
• Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and due diligence on potential investments.
• Explore new tools, AI models, and software hands-on, prototype new capabilities, proving out new technologies
• Prepare and support investment memos and present recommendations to the partnership.
Market Research & Network Building:
• Build upon a deep understanding your focal area.
• Create a proactive community of founders and future founders.
• Attend industry events, conferences, and networking events to build relationships and stay abreast of market trends.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, or engineering strongly preferred for our Palo Alto based-Developer + AI Investor role.
• 2+ years of work experience in venture capital, or operating experience in a relevant tech company or startup.
Analytical & Financial Skills:
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
• Ability to evaluate investment opportunities and assess risks and opportunities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills:
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry professionals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
Passion for Technology:
• Genuine interest in and passion for enterprise software, developer tools, and AI technologies.
• Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies and business models.
