Data Science Intern: AI Reasoning & Agents (Summer 2025)

This isn't your typical data science internship. At Cornerstone OnDemand, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible with reasoning models, autonomous agents, and domain- specialized large language models. As a Data Science Intern in our Advanced AI Research Group, you'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge research and real-world applications that transform how organizations develop talent.
You'll collaborate with our team of AI researchers and engineers to explore the frontier of AI reasoning capabilities, build and evaluate autonomous agent systems, and help develop specialized LLMs that understand the nuances of learning, development, and talent management.
What You'll Do
• Pioneer AI Reasoning Systems: Develop and test novel approaches to enhance reasoning capabilities in language models, with a focus on decision-making in talent management contexts
• Build Autonomous Agents: Contribute to our agent-based systems that can autonomously perform complex talent management tasks with minimal human intervention
• Domain-Specialized Models: Help create and fine-tune LLMs that deeply understand organizational learning, skill development, and career progression
• Research to Production: Experience the full lifecycle of AI development—from academic research papers to production-ready solutions that impact millions of users
• Present Your Work: Document your research findings and potentially contribute to
publications or patents

Requirements
• Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related field
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience using modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX)
• Demonstrable experience with large language models, transformers, and NLP techniques
• Familiarity with reasoning systems, agent architectures, or reinforcement learning is a
significant plus
• Research mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity and develop creative solutions
• Excellent communication skills—you'll need to explain complex concepts to both
technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
• Prior research or publications in AI reasoning, agent systems, or language models
• Experience with LLM fine-tuning, prompt engineering, or RLHF (Reinforcement
Learning from Human Feedback)
• Knowledge of organizational psychology, learning science, or talent management
• Contributions to open-source ML/AI projects
