I would like to hear about your experiences and advice regarding filing a tax return as a J1 visa holder. My situation is a bit complicated: my primary postdoc fellowship comes from Germany, but at the same time, I have been working as a lecturer at Stanford.
This mix of foreign scholarship income and U.S.-based wages makes it really difficult to use typical online tax filing platforms — none of them seem to accommodate my case properly.
Does anyone have recommendations for any specific tax applications or software that can handle this kind of situation? Or would you suggest filing by mail instead?
