Key Responsibilities
• Innovate & Build New Imaging Systems:
• Independently design, develop, and build entirely new optical imaging systems from scratch, rapidly and effectively.
• Translate innovative ideas into working prototypes with minimal supervision.
• Experimental Design & Prototyping:
• Create optical setups using off-the-shelf components, especially Thorlabs parts and similar suppliers.
• Rapidly iterate designs to optimize performance and solve technical challenges.
• Problem-Solving & Analysis:
• Tackle complex optical and interdisciplinary challenges with independent critical thinking and creativity.
• Analyze experimental results and propose data-driven improvements.
• Collaboration & Communication:
• Work closely with surgeons, AI scientists, and engineers from leading institutions.
• Document and communicate experimental setups, results, and insights clearly and effectively.
• Learning & Application:
• Exhibit a strong willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
• Maintain a deep interest in applying optical technologies to real-world surgical and medical applications.

Requirements
• Demonstrated ability to independently build completely new optical imaging systems from the ground up, quickly and effectively.
• Ph.D. in Optical Science, Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field (highly preferred; exceptional candidates with a Bachelor's or Master’s degree and significant practical experience will be considered).
• Extensive hands-on experience designing and constructing optical experiments and prototypes.
• Excellent practical skills working with optical components, particularly Thorlabs hardware (e.g., lenses, mirrors, cage systems, translation stages).
• Strong independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration across diverse disciplines.
• Strong willingness to learn and a passion for applying optical technologies to impactful medical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in interdisciplinary teams, especially in medical or surgical imaging contexts.
• Familiarity with laser systems, imaging modalities, or fiber optics.
• Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and instrument control.
• Record of publications or patents demonstrating innovative optical system development.
Note: Experience with Zemax or other optical design software is helpful but not required for this role.
