About Atargis Energy:
Atargis Energy is a Colorado based clean tech startup company founded in 2010. You have the unique opportunity to join our team which is developing the Cycloidal Wave Energy Converter (CycWEC) that extracts energy from ocean waves and converts it to electricity. If you are passionate about building a sustainable energy supply for our planet, Atargis offers you the chance to be part of the team that is designing, testing and building the first commercially competitive grid scale ocean wave energy converter. Atargis is currently in a wave tank testing campaign for our CycWEc technology and tests results to date correlate very well with our internal simulations. Following this test campaign we intend to perform final testing in either the United Kingdom or Europe prior to commercial deployment.
Summary of Role/Responsibilities:
Our small, interdisciplinary team of research engineers has a job opening for a Naval Architect or Ocean Engineer with specialization in wave tank and open ocean testing. The Naval Architect plans testing campaigns and acquires and analyzes data during these testing campaigns. Travel to the testing locations and personal supervision of the testing is required. This work involves close collaboration with the controls and fluid dynamic simulation engineers. The successful candidate will be experienced in planning and conducting testing campaigns in wave flumes, wave tanks and the open ocean. This includes drafting of testing plans, project management to implement these plans, as well as interaction with staff running the testing facilities. The candidate will use and further develop Atargis in house data acquisition software to collect and analyze data and draft reports for funding agencies as well as open literature publication. Participation in proposal writing is also expected.
Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in Aerospace, Ocean Engineering/Naval Architect
• Masters or Ph.D. degree preferred
• Specialization in conducting experimental testing campaigns
• Strong project management skills
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in tank and/or ocean testing, including Ph.D. work
• Experience in wave tank testing, including test plan design and data analysis / post processing
• In depth understanding of ocean waves
• Expert level programming skills in MATLAB and LabVIEW
• Linux system administration experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Eagerness to work with other engineers in an interdisciplinary team
• Passion for renewable and ocean wave energy
Preference for candidates with experience in the following:
• Knowledge of linear ocean wave theory
• Experience in wave tank model design, both 3D CAD and structural analysis
• Start-up environment
• Dynamic team-oriented contributor
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
Salary Range of $84,000 - $136,000 and Incentive Stock Options TBD
