About me: I'm a recently hired neuroscience postdoc at Stanford working in AI and neuroscience. I am male (so ideally I'd also be looking to live with another male, although I'd potentially consider anyone if we seem like a good enough match as roommates).
About the apartment: I got off the waitlist for Middle Plaza Apartments in downtown Menlo Park (they're offering a 2B/2B at 4500 a month split between 2 people so 2250 per person). This is only an 8-10 mins bike ride to Stanford Medical School so it's really close by for people who work in or near the medical campus.
Note that utilities would be extra, in addition to the rent; conservatively, I would guess that the rent+utilities (including wifi, electricity, water, etc) would be at *most* 2500 per person. Rooms come unfurnished.
This offer is live for the next 48 hours by which time we have to submit the rental application and holding deposit.
Although 2250 + utilities might sound a bit expensive, this actually seems like a really good deal to me, for a few reasons:
1) Stanford offsets the rent, it's actually 80% of the market rate for an equivalent apartment in the same area.
2) The apartment complex is only three years old, is beautiful and has very high quality construction, including extremely good noise cancellation so it's easy to work from home without being bothered by outside sounds.
3) Awesome location
4) From the sounds of it, excellent management and unusually high ratings on Google Reviews (4.4 stars when I checked).
