The Office of Accessible Education needs a Scribe to assist a student registered with our office.

Position: Temporary employee (non-benefits-eligible): OAE Scribe
Date: Sept 22, 2025 – June 10, 2026 (2025-2026 Academic Year)
-No work during Stanford’s winter break (Dec 20, 2025 – Jan 4, 2026) or on Stanford holidays-
Class: TBD but will focus on computer science and math
Time: TBD: will depend on student’s schedule but scribe should be available two full days during the work week and at least one day during the weekend
Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate: $25 / hour


Job Duties:

Write down (or type) material outside of class as student dictates. Some work may be done in class, based on scribe’s availability during class times.

The scribe must be familiar with college-level math such as differential calculus and proofs and be able to write math symbols in an efficient manner. The scribe should know math symbols like sigma (ie, differential calculus and numerical methods). The scribe should be familiar with computer science notation and terminology.

The scribe will be required to manipulate objects such as books and backpacks as part of their assistance to the student. Candidates must have legible handwriting and write efficiently. Work hours will usually be continuous, such as 8 hours straight in one day (with lunch and breaks), but it could change with the student’s schedule.

Work will be done both in person and remotely. You should live in the San Francisco Bay Area and be willing and able to commute to Stanford campus based on the student’s needs for in-person assistance.

Requirements:
• You should be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
• You should have a strong math and computer science background (equivalent to junior/senior level math and computer science courses)
• You must be reliable and patient
• You must be eligible to work in the U.S.
• You must be willing to interview in person with the student; an initial Zoom screening session prior to selection for the in-person interview may be requested
