<p>Partha Chatterjee is Director of the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences in Calcutta, and Professor Anthropology at Columbia University. </p>
<p>Professor Chatterjee is a founding member of the Subaltern Studies editorial collective and is a member of the Global Governance editorial board. He is also Chair of the Council of South Asia Libraries in Chicago. </p>
<p>His books include &#34;The Politics of the Governed&#34; (2004), &#34;A Princely Impostor? The Strange and Universal History of the Kumar of Bhawal&#34; (2003), &#34;A Possible India&#34; (1997), &#34;The Nation and Its Fragments: Colonial and Postcolonial Histories&#34; (1993), and &#34;Nationalist Thought and the Colonial World&#34; (1986). He is the author of numerous papers and has lectured and taught widely in Europe, Africa, Brazil, and the United States.</p>
<p>In addition to these works, Prof. Chatterjee has also composed music for over a dozen stage productions in Calcutta and was twice awarded prizes for best music composition of the year by the West Bengal Theatre Academy, in 1984 and 1996. </p>
