<p>Olivier Roy will address the revival of Islam, or "re-Islamization", among Muslim populations in today's Europe, often wrongly perceived as a backlash against westernization rather than as one of its consequences. Roy is an international expert on Islam, senior researcher at the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) and director of studies at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. Author of many books on Afghanistan, Iran, former Soviet Central Asia, the Middle East. His books include: Islam and Resistance in Afghanistan (1990); The Failure of Political Islam (1994); and, most recently, Globalized Islam: the Search for a New Ummah (2004).</p>
