Students will learn how to apply the structured TEACCH model to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in special education and inclusive settings. They will gain knowledge of the basic concepts of the TEACCH model including visual structure, work systems, structured tasks, compliance and organizing routines in order to build skills in all developmental areas.
Instructor: Dr.Alette Brooks is the Director of South Bay Autism Services, a non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of education for children with ASD. She is a practicing school psychologist with the Berryessa Union School District and is their Autism Program team manager. Dr. Brooks consults widely in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders and participated as a committee member for the California State Department of Education in the development of Best Practices in the Education of Students with Autism. She serves as an adjunct professor in special education at Santa Clara University. Dr. Brooks is involved in the development of Seeds of Greatness, a company dedicated to promoting the dignity and independence of young adults with autism through paid work opportunities.
