The Psychology Department is looking to hire a temporary employee to serve as the Human Subjects Coordinator for a full-time position through 9/30/2007. The position pays $18/hour and will require 40 hours/week (8-5PM). The position will likely be converted into a two-year, fixed term position beginning 10/1/2007. This position will be supervised by the Department Manager and will work closely with the Human Subjects Committee and other faculty and students in the department who frequently use the experiment pools.



The Human Subjects Coordinator will administer the department??????s paid and credit experiment pools. This involves training researchers and new users in the experiment scheduling software (Sona Systems ??????? formerly ETrak), communicating with researchers about their available experiment hours, sending out announcements about experiment pool events (e.g., Q-Day, Pre-Selection, Human Subjects Orientation, etc.), communicating with participants about their accounts, pay and/or credit, and updating the Sona system as necessary. This position will serve as the Department??????s customer service for Sona ??????? acting as a liaison between Sona and the researchers and participants. S/he will handle all the administrative duties associated with running the paid and credit experiment pools. S/he will serve as technical support to researchers using Sona and looking to post on-line surveys, and will be a resource to researchers for web programming as it relates to their experiments. The Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting new participants to the department??????s paid and credit experiment pools. S/he will be responsible for identifying (and executing) advertising/recruitment opportunities, and ways that the department can reach out into the surrounding communities for subjects (e.g., fliers on and off campus, ads in local papers/publications, website updates/announcements, course credit opportunities in Psych and in other departments, etc.). The Human Subjects Coordinator will also serve as a liaison to other departments/schools in the University with experiment pools and to the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences. S/he will find out what opportunities there are to share resources, build relationships and collaborate. S/he will also research the different processes and procedures for experiment pools across the University and on other campuses in the hopes of improving our processes (e.g., how do other departments/institutions recruit subjects, how much are they paying or what types of credit do they offer, what web survey software are they using, etc.). (20% of job duties)



Qualifications:

Experience conducting and participating in experimental research is required for this position. Qualified candidates will likely be recent graduates with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Psychology or other related fields who are interested in research and familiar with the University campus and student population. Ideally, the candidate will have experience with Experimentrak as a researcher or some equivalent experiment scheduling software. The candidate should also have experience in producing on-line experiments/surveys. A strong candidate will also be familiar with the Bay Area (newspapers, publications, community colleges and centers, local universities). Statistical or programming knowledge is a plus.



This position requires a high level of organization and problem solving skills. An ideal candidate will exhibit excellent time management, the ability to set priorities, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work with minimal direction. This position requires excellent communication skills (both written and oral). Other necessary qualities include extreme attention to detail, sensitivity to confidential information, common sense and tact, a high level of energy and enthusiasm, a good sense of humor and a great deal of flexibility, and a passion for working with people with all kinds of attitudes and personalities. A positive, can-do attitude is a must.



This position will require some off-campus work (posting fliers, ads, etc.). A reliable means of transportation is necessary.
