THE LONGER STORY
Hi there! My name is Praveen, and I have been personally committed to the growth and success of my students throughout my 7 years of tutoring and teaching. I'm a graduate of Harvard (BA), Columbia (MA), and Cambridge (MPhil) - and now a Stanford PhD student in Philosophy - so I have valuable personal experience navigating the daunting world of academics (you know: applications, personal essays, standardized tests, classes, term papers, problems sets, looming deadlines, etc.), and have been happily sharing the keys to success with my students all the while.
My admittedly long academic career has provided the opportunity to serve both as an engaged and successful private tutor in a variety of fields (including math, English, history, physics, biology, the social sciences, and the college essay/admissions process) and as a highly-rated Teaching Assistant for Stanford logic and philosophy courses. I am particularly good at helping students excel on standardized tests, as I have invested much time distilling the absolute best strategies for tackling them myself, receiving scores in the 99th percentile on the SAT Math, SAT Verbal, ACT Composite, GRE Verbal, MCAT Verbal, and MCAT Writing, and the 98th percentile on the LSAT and MCAT Physical Science. Through hundreds of hours tutoring, I have helped many students significantly raise their crucial standardized test scores, and, in general, meet their grade report goals and their college and grad/professional school admission goals.
My years of tutoring have been driven not only by a demonstrated love for teaching, but also by the same passion for isolating, clarifying, and communicating core concepts that has inspired my professional interest in philosophy. My approach to private tutoring ensures that students gain conceptual clarity and well-founded confidence in their subjects or tests, and recognizes the importance of patience, approachability, and sensitivity to the unique needs of each individual student. This approach - which deploys highly individually-tailored study plans and goals - is the product of experience. I directed a volunteer tutoring program while at Harvard that matched undergraduates there to students at a local high school, and have had the pleasure of working with students of all backgrounds and motivation levels, from low-income students at the Carthage Elementary School in Cincinnati to gifted middle-school students at the Hunter College Campus School in Manhattan to bright and demanding undergraduate students at Stanford. In all cases, and in yours, I am wholeheartedly committed to the academic development and unprecedented success of my students, whether in class or on test day.
